Hello from Romania!

After spending some time with my family and friends in the Netherlands I have already arrived at the next stop of my summer travel plan. I’m currently in Timișoara, the third biggest city of Romania. In an attempt to avoid the crazy summer prices and beach madness in southern Europe, I found a great hidden gem. Timișoara is a much more beautiful city than I thought and prices are very reasonable so in my opinion this is definitely one of the most underrated cities in Europe.

I’m only staying here for a week and I have a lot more travel coming up, but it’s always a great feeling that my money keeps working for me even when I wander around discovering a new city. So let’s have a look at how my portfolio has done in May.

Peer-To-Peer Lending

Mintos

In May I received €107,53 in interest on Mintos. As you can see on the screenshot of my dashboard, the amount of available funds is high and this is because I have my autoinvest still turned off, so I can withdraw some of my funds and reallocate to other platforms.

Screenshot Mintos dashboard May 2022

After some delays Mintos also finally started listing the first notes on the platform. Notes are a new instrument that will replace the traditional claim rights on loans and this is part of the regulation of the Latvian P2P market. Until the end of June you can still invest in claim rights, but from July 1st, only notes will be available.

I haven’t invested in notes myself yet, because I’m still in the process of reducing my stake in Mintos as part of a rebalancing of my P2P portfolio. I just want to stress that I’m not planning to leave Mintos, so will start investing in notes when I turn on my autoinvest again sometime in the near future.

In the meantime Mintos is also looking at alternative solutions to pay back war-affected loans. I personally don’t have any outstanding loans in Ukraine on Mintos, but I’m still exposed with significant investments in Russia. I noticed a big chunk has been paid back so far, but there’s still a long way to go. Due to the sanctions there are very limited alternatives and these are also more costly, so Mintos has done a survey among investors and it turned out that 80% of them are willing to accept at least some additional cost in order to get their money sooner. I fully agree with this, as the sanctions might last for years, who knows, so taking a small loss might be better than having your money still at risk and not working for you.

EstateGuru

On EstateGuru I received €73,72 in interest in May and everything still seems to go well since I started using the new autoinvest feature in January of this year.

Peerberry

On PeerBerry I received €37,93 in interest during May. I actually thought that I was facing cash drag since I deposited €1500 in April, but it turned out to be my own mistake. I simply forgot to increase the maximum portfolio size of my autoinvest strategy, which was still capped at €5000, despite having over €6000 in my account. I learned my lesson and fixed it and by now, all funds are invested.

Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, PeerBerry continues to find ways to pay allocate funds for the pay-back of war-affected loans. I don’t have any outstanding Russian loans on PeerBerry, but I’m still exposed to Ukrainian loans so I hope PeerBerry will continue to find ways to payback the remaining outstanding balances. I have a lot of trust that this will happen, given the proactive way PeerBerry has acted so far.

Bondora Go&Grow

On Bondora I earned €32,07 in interest from Bondora Go&Grow in May.

Bondora also introduced a new Go & Grow Forecast tool which shows you the predicted growth of your investment, based on the initial value, additional monthly deposits, current interest rate and the number of years selected. Of course this tool won’t make your investments grow faster, but I like the visual representation which clearly shows the power of compound interest.

IUVO Group

On IUVO Group I earned €28,20 in interest in May.

Viainvest

On Viainvest I received €16,65 in interest in May.

Robocash

On RoboCash I received a total interest of €13,76 in May.

Bondster

Last month I added Bondster to my portfolio, but as usual I’m first testing out the platform with a small amount of €100 which brought me €0,12 in interest so far. I’m still in the process of getting my account completly set up and verified and before making any further deposts, I will also first test the withdrawal process. So more on this in the next Portfolio Update.

Crypto Lending

In May I received a total of €33,59 in interest on lending out some of my Bitcoin holdings on three platforms: Celsius, YouHodler and BlockFi. In euro values the interest income has been going down for the last few months, due to the declining bitcoin value. However, I keep reminding myself that these numbers are only indicative, because I receive the interest in bitcoin so I keep accumulation more bitcoin and I even see the current valuation as a nice opportunity to continue to buy more using the dollar cost averaging strategy.

Bitcoin Euro-value
Celsius 0,000661 €19,36
YouHodler 0,000224 €6,56
BlockFi 0,00026190 €7,67
€33,59
